In Memoriam
Last week Friday I lost a very close friend in a car crash. Someone who had everything to live for, who lived life to the full - not shying away from the bitter fruit but sucking the sweetness of what life had to offer too.
When someone is cut down in the prime of their life, it is trite to say that it gives one pause, that one's own mortality is thrown into sharp relief. I certainly started to think about my own path, where I am heading, what I will want to leave behind. And the truth be told, I hadn't really given much thought to it... "It could never happen to me" is a dangerous attitude because it lulls you into a falls sense of security.
Elize will live on - as we all will - in the hearts and minds of those who loved and cared for her; and perhaps that is enough? A living memorial rather than a legacy? Or perhaps that is the legacy?
